Do you want to be an UMPIRE?

The umpires will have a totally different system than the teams use. The umpires will also be able to access their schedules and assign games to themselves from the Stack Officials app. 

NEW AGE REQUIREMENT
13 and older is the new age requirement for the umpires. (see 4iii below)

NEW UMPIRE ASSISTANT - Eric Bonzheim
BTLL welcomes our new umpire assistant, Eric Bonzheim. Eric comes to us with 10+ years of umpiring experience, including MHSAA and college level. Eric will oversee the umpire training sessions and assist me during the season with scheduling.

TEST/TRAINING

1. ALL Umpires MUST take the in-person test.

   1. Thursday March 6 - 6:30-8:30 at Byron Township Community Center: Rm. 3

   2. Saturday March 8 - 3:00-5:00 at Byron Township Community Center GYM

2. If an umpire passes, they will receive an email with the link to create an account in Stack Officials.

   1. If they don’t pass, they can take the test again. We will allow the test to be retaken 2 times. Umpires are able to attend the second test day and retake it then. If they can’t make that date, then we can email them a fillable form for the test.

3. NEW on-field training in April   

   1. What umpires should & should not wear for games.

   2. Umpires will learn the proper on-field placement and play calling.

   3. Umpires will learn the proper behind the plate placement and play calling.

   4. Umpires will receive their NEW umpire shirts 

   5. A $20 payment will be added to the first paycheck if the candidates attend classroom training, pass tests, and complete field training.

STACK OFFICIALS

4. NEW - A work permit is now required. 

   1. There is a section for the worker to complete and section for the school to complete

   2. Once both are complete, you need to return to me.

   3. It is required in the State of Michigan that all workers age 13-17 must complete a work permit.

5. When creating the account on Stack Officials

   1. You will enter your SSN for tax purposes

   2. You will enter your direct deposit information 

6. Based on how many years you have been umpiring, and last years level you will be assigned levels and position

   1. If you feel this is inaccurate or would like to try to move up to plate, we have the ability now to do assessments.

7. Once games have been loaded into the system and they have been released (2 weeks at a time) you will be able to go in and assign yourself to games

   1. There will be a limit on how many games you can assign yourself per the 2 weeks and within a 24 hr period. We have to make it fair for everyone.

   2. Will want to download app - schedule and receive reminders of games, confirm your games 

8. NEW - After completing your game, you will need to confirm your game. THIS IS HOW YOU GET PAID. 

MISCELLANEOUS

9. Umpires are required to use their own equipment, but we will have plenty onsite if you forget yours. 

10. Know your BTLL game timing rules.

    1. We will do our best to have them posted and reminders sent out

11. Know the inclement weather rules. We will have these posted as well.

12. REMEMBER…Umpires have the say, NOT the coaches if a game is called or delayed due to the weather.
